The Concours d'Elegance, one of the most prestigious processions of antique aquatic craft in the world, takes to Lake Tahoe over three days in August. This year the Concours d'Elegance features "Boats of the Twenties" as its marque class.
The Concours d'Elegance, which began in 1972 and which has grown over the decades, celebrates its 36th anniversary this season. A three-day show of the finest antique and classic boats - judged to original factory standards - this year's event is scheduled for Thursday, August 7; Friday, August 8; and Saturday August 9. Organizers added another day to the event last year to make it easier for interested water sports enthusiasts to see more than 110 boats expected to turn out for this year's parade. Beginning at noon on Thursday, "VIP" visitors will get an advance look at the flotilla with an opening ceremony to announce the official start of the show, although ticket sales are limited to the first 500 people. Added attractions include libations, hors d'oeuvres, and boat rides on some of Tahoe's finest wooden boats. With the exception of the "People's Choice" Award, all trophies will be presented on Friday evening, August 8th. Advance tickets, information, photos and history of the event are available at www.laketahoeconcours.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the gate.
