Killington Welcomes Fishermen

Fishing is a popular summer pastime in Killington. Coming here can be a lot like coming home to the favorite fishing stream for visiting fishermen.

A fishing license is required; obtain one at most general stores. Almost all Green Mountain streams hold wild brook trout. Bordering the Killington Ski Resort, larger wild brook trout can be found in the slow-moving Ottauquechee River in Bridgewater, and in the upper reaches of the Poultney and Castleton Rivers. The best brook trout fishing is in May and early June.

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks a number of ponds with trout. Families should visit the Mendon Beaver Pond, adjacent to U.S. Route 4 in Mendon. Other nearby stocked ponds include Colton Pond and Kent Pond in Killington; Leffert's Pond in Chittenden; Proctor Beaver Pond in Proctor, and Smith Pond in Pittsford.

For rainbow trout, try Otter Creek in Wallingford; Furnace Brook in Pittsford, East Creek in Rutland Town and Chittenden, and Ottauquechee River in Bridgewater; or, Sunset Lake in Benson; Glen Lake in Castleton; or Lake St. Catherine in Poultney, all of which have free, public boat launches.
