Why not head to the beach? Camp Plymouth State Park is just outside Ludlow on the East Shore of Echo Lake. There are 249 acres for hiking trails, fishing, hunting, gold panning, and forest-oriented primitive camping. There's a quite large picnic area. Great for groups, too. It's open mid-May through September.
