Citizen science is one of the latest crazes in national parks and wilderness. Experts train visitors to assist with research efforts in the field. In Banff National Park, the Banff Gondola is offering a special package for families to participate in research efforts with their Citizen Science Family Getaway package.
The science program, especially targeted at kids with their parents, runs for a half-day. Volunteer instructors give participants an intimate look at the unique Banff National Park environment and learn about ways to protect the ecosystem.
The package includes three nights of accommodations at the Mount Royal Hotel. Lodging starts at $89 per night, per adult. The children stay free. The hotel, which is located right in downtown Banff, has its historic origins in 1908.
Two other activities are built into the package-rides on the Banff Gondola and the Lake Minnewanka boat. Take the Banff Gondola up to 7,486 feet in elevation for a panoramic view of the Canadian Rockies. See bighorn sheep, bald eagles, and osprey while touring the emerald Lake Minnewanka with shores that sweep up to towering peaks.
All children participating in the Citizen Science Family Getaway package receive a special Adventure Fun Pack and limited edition backpack. The kids also travel free. Book the package online with Banff Lake Louise Tourism.
