The image of riding horseback through the rugged Rocky Mountains is an icon of the West. Now you can do it with Moonlight Basin's Cowboy Package. Don a cowboy hat, and you're ready to go. (Spurs are not required.)
The package combines three nights of accommodations in a Cowboy Heaven Cabin, a two-hour horseback ride through Moonlight Basin, and a roping clinic taught by a local award-winning cowboy. You may not be a pro rider when you're finished, but you will experience the spirit of the West.
Cowboy Heaven Cabins are four-star log cabins with mountain views and Lone Peak looming above. The cabins, which accommodate a maximum of six to eight people, include a full kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Some even have an added loft. Each cabin also has a private hot tub on the deck.
Cowboy Packages start at $94 per person per night. They are based on quad occupancy and available from June 13 through Sept. 15.
Those scheduling vacations over the Fourth of July can add on the Big Sky rodeo. The packages that include grandstand tickets for the rodeo start at $99 per person per night and are based on quad occupancy.
The Cowboy Heaven Cabins also make a good base for exploring Yellowstone National Park 30 minutes away. Other summer activities at Moonlight Basin include hiking and wildlife watching in addition to being a cowpoke.
