Moonlight Basin is offering fly-fishing instruction packages this summer. One package targets those who want to learn the basics of casting, and the other aims to improve skills in the field. Both can be combined with lodging packages.
The Fly-fishing 101 class dives into a tour of the fly box to learn the mysteries of fly-fishing equipment. An experienced local guide instructs students on casting techniques. The instructional program, which runs from 4-7 p.m., also includes beverages and appetizers.
Fly-fishing 101 is geared to anyone 10 years old and above. These clinics run Jul. 3, 13, and 31, and Aug. 13, 19, and 27. The clinic by itself costs $75 per person.
Those who are ready to sink their lines into more than flat water can join Moonlight's three-day fly-fishing school. The instructors work students through a progression to cast on still water, but the course finale launches onto a river for a full day of guided float fishing.
Courses are scheduled for Jul. 24-26 and Aug. 8-10. The rate is $825 per person and includes use of equipment, a Federation of Fly Fishers Intro to Fly Fishing book, a T-shirt, two lunches, and a continental breakfast.
Neither of the programs includes Montana fishing licenses, Yellowstone National Park fishing licenses, or waders.
Those participating in either fly-fishing program can add a two-night lodging package for Moonlight Basin. Rates start at $101 per person per night based on quad occupancy.
