The Gunnison River Festival, which showcases hundreds of miles of waterways and rugged recreation in the scenic Gunnison River valley, takes place June 26-28.  

Events include the Down River Race on Upper Taylor River, a  Gunnison White Water Park competition, the Gunnison Loco-Motive Multi-Sport Race that tests athletes paddling, mountain biking and trail running prowess, and the new Gunnison Glory Endurance Climbing Festival, which is a 24-hour climbing competition with over 150 roped routes. Scattered throughout the climbing venue, are entertainment options for the whole family to enjoy. 

For the less adventurous there is a Black Canyon Audubon Society bird watching tour on the morning of Friday, June 26; a scenic bird watching float trip, $40 per person, that afternoon on the Gunnison River; and a Star Party at the Gunnison Valley observatory Friday evening. There is community boat float in the morning, a foamy boat race at noon, and a river board exhibition at 1 p.m., in addition to the competitions scheduled Saturday.
