The Water Wheel Inn, located just outside Gunnison on Highway 50, is offering a Climb into the Saddle package that starts at $199.50 per person, double occupancy and is the perfect way to ease into horseback riding. It's a package just made for tenderfoots, which includes a night's lodging, a four to five hour Swampy Pass horseback ride for two, followed by a 60-minute massage for two. What a great way to end a day's ride. The package, available through Aug. 3, also includes a complimentary daily hot breakfast bar.
Located in the unspoiled heart of Gunnison County, the Water Wheel Inn offers spectacular scenery everywhere you look. Imagine riding through wildflower meadows with imposing mountain peaks surrounding you. Grab your reins and follow your guide into the pristine, majestic West Elk Wilderness. You might want to spend more than one night.
If you visit during July 10-19 you will be in town for the 109th annual Cattlemen's Days, which is the granddaddy of Colorado rodeos. The 10-day festival is all about celebrating Gunnison's ranching heritage and Western spirit. It features three professional rodeos held at the Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center the evenings of July 16, 17, and 18 starting at 7 p.m. each evening.
