All old jokes aside, Park City is one town excited to be turning 125 and they're throwing themselves a party. Sure, times are tough and belt-tightening is in order, but not when it comes to celebrating an historic place that has perpetually reinvented itself to the joy of those who moved to Park City and raised their families here. Some may argue that people lived in PC before 1884 and they'd be right. But the town didn't incorporate until that golden year.

Therefore, the Park City Council has declared a daylong celebration on Main Street, June 13, 2009. The day begins with a breakfast and a motorcycle ride, followed by a walking parade of organizations and businesses at about 11:30 a.m. that will host 'floats' commemorating the city's history like the 2002 Winter Games.

Stay at the Lift Lodge (875 Main St.) for just $165 per night or get one free night for every two paid nights through ResortQuest Park City by mentioning the Park City Chamber. Think that's good? You'll get your 7th, 8th, and 9th nights free!, if you pay for six nights, The offer is valid for stays now through the Nov.15, 2009.

Live music concerts by John Boys Mule, Swagger and Fat Paw start at noon at Miners Park and run until 5:30 p.m. while The Park City High School Jazz Band, a Tai Chi demonstration and performance by the Irish Dance Troupe start on the Main Stage at Lower Main Street at 4:45 p.m. There will be costumed storytellers, face painting for kids, mad hatter birthday hats, food and beer gardens throughout the day.

Since the celebration comes on the eve of the Western Governors' Association meeting in Deer Valley, organizers expect to draw a roster of high-profile politicians like Utah Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr. and Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert.

National newgrass recording artist Sam Bush closes out the day on the Main Stage at 7:30 p.m. for a free public concert expected to draw 5,000 people.

Get to Old Town early and plan to park and ride the free buses into town. Main Street itself will be closed to traffic. Better yet, book a room within walking distance.
