Invitations to the best working sheepdogs and their handlers have already been sent out around the world ahead of the Soldier Hollow Classic, scheduled for Labor Day weekend. A good sheepdog goes a long way in Utah. A real long way. That's why they've devoted an entire festival to the art form. The 2010 edition is Sept. 3 - 6.
Each day the Bank of the West Soldier Hollow Classic is filled with unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes! While there is open sheepdog competition each day the nature of that competition changes as the event progresses. On the first day the dogs face their greatest challenge: a new course and wild sheep. On the second and third days the top dogs begin to learn about the hill and the sheep they face. Border Collies are the world's smartest dogs and you can actually watch them learn by coming on more than one day. By Monday, Labor Day, only the 15 best dogs from the first three days advance to the Supreme Grand Championship.
Events, performances, demonstrations and activities also vary from day to day. You'll enjoy bagpipe music, great food, arts and crafts, animal activities and demonstrations. The whole event concludes Monday afternoon with the official medals ceremonies.
