Rocky Mountains. Mustangs. Roundup. Ah-ha, yes, horses. Cowboys. Lariats. Ah, no. Guess again. If you head for the 21st Annual Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup at Steamboat Springs being held June 18-21, the Mustangs you see all lined up will be from the Ford Ranch, or rather the Ford Motor Company.
Ford Mustang owners come to Steamboat from miles around each summer to show off their treasured wheels and commiserate with other Mustang aficionados. Nearly 600 Mustang owners are expected this summer.
The Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel is the host hotel for the event and is offering discounted rates starting at $105 per night for a parlor/studio for two.
This year's roundup begins with a scenic mountain tour June 18, followed by an autocross the next day at the Tennis Meadows parking lot, during which some 200-plus drivers will compete for trophies, and a Friday night social for participants.
But the big draw for non-participants is the Show n' Shine Car Show on Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at which time passersby can watch the endless lines of vintage Mustangs being judged for their cleanliness, craftsmanship, and quality - for a lot less than the cost of a rodeo ticket.
Hundreds of vintage restored Ford Mustangs will be on display along Steamboat Springs' Lincoln Avenue Saturday, June 20, as part of the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup.
