The South Thompson Inn in Kamloops maintains a reputation as a different type of hotel. The boutique inn, which sits on 55 acres overlooking the South Thompson River, looks like it should be in Kentucky with its white fences and horse paddocks. But instead, it lounges in the inland British Columbia mountains with plenty of family outdoor recreation.
The inn's Summer Family Package - good through Oct. 15 - includes one night's accommodation, unlimited lawn sports and four continental breakfasts for $199 CAD. Rooms with either a river or mountain view have two beds. Each of the inn's 48 rooms - named for a famous race horse or race track - features an individual design.
The inn's outdoor heated pool and hot tub overlook the river. Plus, the lawn surrounding the inn works for games, which are included in the package. Check out the equipment from the front desk for horseshoes, badminton, bocce and volleyball. Walk to the pond to see painted turtles, tour the river bank to watch for birds, and go see the inn's llamas and horses. Enjoy the evening around the riverfront fire pit.
Add on other nearby activities for the family. Go horseback riding, rent mountain bikes to tour Kamloops, or take a hike.
