Two of Sun Valley's rafting companies -The River Company and White Otter - have teamed up with area lodges to offer discounted packages to experience the wild Idaho mountains. What better way to cool off in summer than splashing in whitewater.

Packages for half-day whitewater excursions are with The River Company, and full-day trips are with White Otter. Both raft trips launch onto the Salmon River in the Sawtooth Mountains near Stanley, a 75-minute drive from Sun Valley. The trip are led by experienced, professional guides, and the water is safe - a frothy Class II and III - for ages four and up.

Lodging for the packages is available at five different Sun Valley area properties: The Tamarack Lodge, Best Western Kentwood Lodge, Best Western Tyrolean Lodge, Clarion Inn, and Sun Valley Lodge. You also can customize the package for a vacation home or condominium as alternatives.

The rafting and lodging packages are available throughout most of the summer. The ending dates vary with each lodging property, but some are valid through Sept. 23.

Prices for adults start at $154 per person based on double occupancy for one night. Rates for children start as low as $113.
