One of Taos' most fascinating lodgings is Hacienda del Sol B&B, a rambling 11-room adobe once owned by Taos' legendary Mabel Dodge Luhan. An influential art patron who came to Taos in 1919, the wealthy heiress played a large part in creating Taos' art colony.

She and her husband used Hacienda del Sol as a guest house, where such literary heavyweights as D.H. Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Willa Cather stayed.

Called "one of the most romantic inns in the U.S." by USA Today, the B&B is getting into the spirit of the Taos Summer of Love by offering, for an additional fee, chocolate-dipped strawberries and a bottle of champagne waiting in a couple's room upon their arrival.

Its $650 Honeymoon or Anniversary Special includes two nights' lodging in Los Armantes, its most romantic suite with a large Jacuzzi tub and a kiva fireplace, fresh flowers, a bottle of champagne, and chocolate-covered strawberries. It also includes use of the Health Club that has tennis and racquetball courts, indoor/outdoor swimming pools, and yoga and aerobic classes.

Just north of Taos, Hacienda del Sol is in a great location for checking out the daily Summer of Love activities and events, such as gallery shows, arts and crafts fairs, photography exhibits, concerts, and lectures.
