Adobe & Pines Inn, a quintessentially Southwestern B&B four miles south of the Taos Plaza, offers a peaceful haven from the rush of everyday life. Its 80-foot-long portico, fruit orchard, babbling brook, gourmet breakfasts, and eight timber-and-adobe guest rooms with traditional fireplaces and distinctive Southwest décor create an atmosphere that's pretty hard to leave.

Nonetheless, the owners have come up with a go-out-and-do-it summer special that's pretty hard to pass up. The Inn's Outdoor Adventure and Spa Package, includes three nights of lodging, a half day of river rafting on the Rio Grande, and two one-hour in-room massages. The river rafting can be substituted with another outdoor option, such as fly fishing, horseback riding, golf, and mountain biking.

Llama trekking is an extra $40 per person. Additional activities can be added to the package at an added charge. The package runs from May to October - or as long as horseback riding is still available.

Package rates, based on double occupancy, range from $755 for a stay in Puerta Violeta, which has an oversized jetted tub, feather-bedded queen-size bed, large picture windows, and a corner kiva fireplace, to $935 for a stay in copper-and-turquoise-accented Puerta Cobre, a two-room suite with gas fireplaces, feather-bedded queen-size bed, wet bar/kitchenette, Mexican-tiled tub with two-person whirlpool, and a private outdoor two-person hot springs-fed hot tub.

All Inn rooms feature fireplaces, sitting areas, bathrobes and slippers, CD and DVD players, and cable TV. The Inn offers free wireless Internet service, an outdoor fire ring, acres of country gardens, spa services, a dry sauna/steam room, complimentary firewood, and concierge service.
