World renown National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) in Winter Park, Colo., caters to people of any age with almost any type of disability.

NSCD hosts the 18th annual Fat Tire Classic to support these programs. The pledge event offers bikers and hikers a weekend in the mountains while making an important contribution to the work of the National Sports Center for the Disabled and the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter. There will be a wide variety of well-marked trails for all levels of riders and hikers, activities for children, including the Family Fun Ride, aid stations along the trails with snacks, first-aid and mechanical support, a commemorative Fat Tire t-shirt, five catered meals, and a Saturday Night Celebration with live entertainment and free Fat Tire Amber Ale. The party starts on July 17, 2009 and ends July 19.

Lodging packages for this event start at $55 per person for a studio condo in Fraser Crossing / Founders Pointe, slopeside 20 percent off the nightly rate.

People with disabilities can experience several new camps and activities this year like therapeutic horseback riding, rafting, rock climbing, camping, kayaking, and hiking. The new camps include a three-day River Camp for Individuals and Families and a Horse Camp where adults and teens will spend three days learning not only riding skills, but all about horses by grooming and feeding them as well as maintaining the area. New day activities include Sailing at Grand Lake, and the Community Cycling Club.

NSCD summer programs also include the popular Adventure Club for adults and children, designed to provide participants the opportunity to enjoy a different recreational activity each day. Also returning is the NSCD therapeutic Rock Climbing Program where various Denver organizations like the Colorado Center for the Blind can enjoy the thrill of rock climbing.

Teens with disabilities are invited to attend special camps geared just for teens. Another brand new camp, Adult Vacation Club, is geared toward adults searching for a physically challenging adventure.
